The ability to change the size of storage locations on a Kardex shelf in a graphical interface directly from a mobile terminal during warehouse movements.
The Kardex shelf is divided into 4 x 8 sub-segments, which are separated by movable dividers to form storage locations. These locations can be adjusted over time to fit the size and quantity of stored materials.
It is therefore possible to divide a storage location, originally made up of 2 x 2 segments, into two smaller storage locations, such as 1 x 2, as needed. If such a change is required, it must be done on the fly, during the storage process.
Standard SAP EWM allows you to manually empty the original storage location, delete it, create a new location with new parameters, move the original stock into it, and send the information to the Kardex system.
Using the mobile terminal application, we display an overview of the existing storage locations on the given shelf to the warehouse worker. In a 4 x 8 grid, we show them the position of the target storage location for their storage task.
We enable switching to edit mode, where the warehouse worker can enlarge or reduce the storage location by selecting different segments, or even delete and create a new one. Everything happens in real time, and the master data for storage locations is synchronized with the Kardex subsystem.
When splitting a storage location into multiple segments, the stock from the original location is left in the first segment at the bottom left of the original location and is moved to one of the newly created storage locations. We only allow merging multiple storage locations if the current stock is in one of them, ensuring that the resulting merged storage location holds only one material.
