Extended CDS Views compared to the SAP EWM standard, model KPIs based on them.
The solution for operational dashboards using the Warehouse Cockpit, which I wrote about in the article SAP EWM add-ons (16.): Warehouse Cockpit, is great but has its limitations.
The first limitation is the SAP GUI environment, to which this tool is restricted. Dashboards often need to be shared outside of this environment. On the other hand, the integration of cockpit graphs with operational reports in the Warehouse Monitor is a significant advantage, enabling a quick response to critical situations that the dashboard may highlight.
Another limitation is performance. Evaluating tens of thousands of records using ABAP functions takes some time, so the cockpit proves unsuitable for more extensive analyses.
For strategic reporting, we prefer using SAP Fiori, where KPIs and graphs are defined directly on CDS Views. In this area, we have already found several improvements over the standard for evaluating warehouse processes.
It is necessary to perform quick evaluations over large volumes of constantly changing data. For these purposes, the warehouse cockpit sometimes proves too slow.
Using dynamic tiles in the Fiori Launchpad, it is necessary to provide the warehouse manager with a quick overview of key values from selected KPIs, with the option to view their details.
The EWM standard offers CDS views for evaluating warehouse operations using Fiori reports and graphs. However, these CDS views do not yet cover the full range of data sources and are more of a template for building truly effective reporting.
We concluded that it’s necessary to prepare a better data foundation for more effective evaluation, and the result is:
Our extended CDS View on outbound delivery items allows, compared to the standard, the evaluation of, for instance:
Evaluating approximately 30,000 items takes an average of 3 seconds and is available on a computer, tablet, and smartphone.
